For companies in the recycling business, the ongoing transformation in cultural and political mindsets is leading to big opportunities. In New Zealand and around the world governments are looking to minimise the number of landfills and reduce waste.

It is ideal to reuse as much material as possible, not only from an environmental sustainability point of view, but from a potential revenue perspective as well. But it takes a significant investment to go from a simple landfill-type of business into the waste processing business, so the more efficient the recycling, the higher the value of reusable waste material.

Metso Outotec’s range of mobile crushing and screening equipment, available in New Zealand from MIMICO, offers a cost-effective and efficient way to attack this market.

Lokotrack® Urban™ Series mobile jaw crushers

Lokotrack® Urban™ Series mobile jaw crushers are noise and dust encapsulated crushing machines that comply with stricter regulations and allow crushing and screening in cities, urban environments, and other populated areas.

Lokotrack Urban Series crushers are equipped with noise and dust encapsulation features that minimise disturbance to people living and working close by. These track-mounted crushing plants are available in a wide range of configurations and capacities, including models with an integrated screen. Unique noise encapsulation features cut up to 60% of crushing noise distance compared to conventional crushing.

This allows operators to run crushing operations in heavily regulated urban locations and bid for contracts that could not be completed with conventional crushing equipment.

By crushing on site, operators can minimise or even eliminate the need to transport aggregates and waste materials to and from the site. Reducing back and forth truck traffic speeds up production, lowers costs and emissions, and improves profitability. Excellent noise suppression results in crushing longer every day as the hourly limits on permits can be extended.

The noise and dust encapsulation features of Urban Series mobile crushers are designed in such a way that they do not compromise the transport dimensions, ease of maintenance, or safe operation of the plant.

Active Setting Control (ASC)

Active Setting Control (ASC) is an optional accessory for the C96, C106, and C120 jaw crusher models, which feature as part of the Lokotrack Urban range. This greatly enhances the crusher’s performance in hard applications with frequent uncrushable objects, such as in recycling or slag applications. It also significantly improves uptime because it lets the operator adjust settings under a full crushing load.

With ASC, combined with IC10C, the crusher setting opens automatically when it encounters uncrushable material and returns it back to the original setting, enabling it to continue crushing seamlessly. Metso IC10C crusher automation controls and monitors crusher and ancillary equipment helping to achieve the best performance, protection, and safety, and to maximise uptime. The IC10C provides constant throughput by full control of the crushing process, as well as condition and data monitoring together with the many sensors available.

ASC technology protects the crusher’s critical components from damage with three cylinders built inside the rear frame. The unique three-cylinder concept prevents the pitman bearings from twisting and ASC also includes a toggle plate for optimum jaw crusher protection.

Lokotrack mobile screens

Lokotrack mobile screens are widely used in aggregates production and recycling applications around the world. Thanks to track-mounted construction, Lokotrack screens are easy to move at a production site and transport between sites.

Durable, high-quality Lokotrack mobile screens operate in various standalone and multistage applications. This range of track-mounted screening plants provides multiple options, depending on produced material, production volume, site characteristics and location. Lokotrack screens are customisable and fit for many different needs – they can also be tailored or modified later if the production requirements change.

Lokotrack ST2.3, ST2.4, and ST2.8 scalping screens are ideally suited to recycling applications.

The Lokotrack ST2.3 mobile screen is suitable for heavy duty scalping, fine screening, and recycling. It is Metso Outotec’s most compact mobile screener with wide screen and aggressive stroke. The ST2.3 offers the best screening performance in its class, with the widest screen (1.5m) in its class, with matching feeder and conveyors, and up to 13mm aggressive stroke with 5G acceleration.

The Lokotrack ST2.4 and ST2.4E mobile screen combines high output with clean, accurate end products from all feed materials. They offer the lowest cost per ton produced in the size class through improved fuel economy, high capacity, and low operating costs. The ST2.4 sets a new standard in terms of set-up time. All that is required to transform the screen from transport to operating position is to unfold the conveyors, set the screen angle and raise the feeder up hydraulically.

The Lokotrack ST2.8 and ST2.8E mobile scalping screen makes the scalping of sticky recycling material look easy. The design principle is simple: to optimise capacity in demanding scalping and to minimise unprofitable time on site. The stickier the feed material, the more throw needed in the scalping screen. The ST2.8 has the biggest eccentric throw on the market to make it the best unit for the screening of topsoil, demolition waste and river gravel. Additionally, this model can be fine-tuned for sand applications. The clearance under the screen has been increased by 20% and the bottom deck area made larger as well.

Both the ST2.4 and ST2.8 are often used as primary scalpers in topsoil and natural sand applications and are suitable in multistage crushing processes to split the products between secondary and primary crusher. The Lokotrack ST2.4E and ST2.8E models are equipped with e-Power that gives twice the choice for a business. Plug it to the grid for quiet, emission-free, and economical scalping in the cities, and enjoy the flexibility of modern low-emission and low noise diesel engine out in the country.
