We were pleased to be major supporters of the MIMICO Excavator Competition, which was held during the recent Truck & Machinery Show at Kumeu, north of Auckland.
Set up as an independent stand-alone excavator operator competition to test the skills of top operators, the event saw eighteen competitors take part in eight skills-based challenges on a course with a time limit of less than half an hour. We provided two 5.5-tonne Kobelco SK55SRX-6 excavators for the competitors to use.
The day began with breakfast and a safety briefing for competitors, followed by a walkthrough and the drawing of names to see who would be first to take part.
The competition started with a pre-start check, judged by Wayne Drinnan of Diesel Services Albany Ltd, then the competitors were out on the course. To keep on track, course manager Brook Harland and his assistants had set up two replicated versions of the course, allowing two machines to compete at once. Chris Skelton, MIMICO sales rep for North Auckland and Northland, judged one course Randolph Covich, Editor - Deals on Wheels magazine, looked after the second.
A solid day of competition, with more than a bit of skill on show, ended with Daniel Smith taking the event out. Congratulations to:
- First place: Daniel Smith (Easy Transport/ GTG Earthmoving)
- Second place: Chris Drinnan (Drinnan Contractors)
- Third place: Brad Jones (Target Drainage)
- Fourth place: Jake Alderson (Higgins Contractors)
- Good sport: Jay Julian (C&D Landfill)
